To be honest, this band is new to me. I just don't remember ever hearing them before, but man I have been enjoying the album and have been pleasantly surprised. Ensis is the third full-length album. They are a band from Spain. This album just came out on Lifeforce Records. It is my understanding that the band includes musicians who used to play in well-known groups like NahemaH and Hela, but unfortunately I don't know those bands. Check it out though, this is The Holeum's first album since their 2019 album Sublime Emptiness. So, they took their sweet time! Of course, we all know that bands go through problems and it is difficult to keep making music when the problems of life interfere in major ways. Well, I am glad they came back. The album is something like progressive, post-metal and atmospheric all done with a foundation of doom. It's heavy, pretty heavy actually, but can feel melodic in subtle ways, and it goes into gentle, soft segments, too, for a sense of variety.
