In my opinion, this album is such a wonderful work. It is an astounding idea to dare to do what they did! They made a piano album! There's more to it, actually.
This twelve-track studio album features acoustic and orchestral reinterpretations of songs from the first ten albums, and one previously unreleased track. Produced by guitarist Jeremiah Scott and featuring cover art by Eliran Kantor, the record replaces the band’s metal instrumentation with piano, strings, and acoustic guitars to focus on melodic arrangements and Ryan Clark's melodic singing.
The tracklist is "My Throat Is an Open Grave," "Dead Flowers," "The Heart of a Graveyard," and the new song "Praise the Void." Then it continues with: "Blood in the Tears," "Loneliness," "I Am a Stone," "I Will Fail You," "Deteriorate," "Carry Me Down," "The Tide Began to Rise," and "My Heartstrings Come Undone."
The album is a type of retrospective, through a somber, mid-tempo format, without the use of distorted guitars or high-tempo percussion. They brought in Joanna Ott to handle the piano and keyboard duties. It is a full studio production with the objective of an authentic sound. In addition to Joanna’s piano work, the lush orchestral layers were arranged and performed by Chris Carmichael, who has worked with artists various artists, including Taylor Swift.
If you have not heard this album, and you like piano, like I do, then you are in for a wonderful, pleasant listening experience.
