In Memory of LIEGE LORD Guitarist Paul Nelson (1960-2024)
Paul Nelson (October 18, 1960 - March 10, 2024)
Metal Archives shows that Paul Nelson was a guitarist best known in the metal world for his work with power/speed/thrash metal band Liege Lord. He joined the band in 1987 and played guitar on their most famous albums, Burn to My Touch and the 1988 classic Master Control, a personal favorite of mine. Some people have observed that his fast and technical guitar solos helped define the band's aggressive and polished sound during the late 1980s. I cannot comment on the following information, but you may find it interesting that outside of heavy metal, he was a Grammy-winning musician who worked closely with blues legend Johnny Winter for many years. Metal Archives trivia: "Paul took guitar lessons from Steve Vai while they were both students at the Berklee College of Music. He paid Vai with a carton of cigarettes for each one hour lesson."
