If you’re into that classic, old-school Florida death metal sound, in my opinion, Monstrosity is a people’s champ! To me, ever since their awesome 1992 debut album, Monstrosity has been everything that genre fans expect from death metal—the kind of death metal that needs no additional adjectives.
The vocals carry a strength of brutality with no weaknesses; it's a strong, muscular growl that makes fans of old-school death metal drive faster, run faster, mosh harder, or injure themselves at the gym thinking they can bench press 300 pounds.
This is album number seven, and they deliver nothing but straight-up quality. It’s riff after riff of headbanging energy, supported by a rhythm section that works flawlessly. The drumming in Monstrosity has always been a thing that keeps me interested; every album is a clinic in death metal drumming. Wow.
Lastly, even though this is not melodic death metal at all—it’s classic-style, foundational American death metal—there are great guitar solos all over the album. They aren't show-off or self-indulgent; rather, they are fitting solos that complement the songs perfectly. A job well done! I am pleased.
