I know the singing of Tarja Turunen (born August 17, 1977) from her time with the band Nightwish, but she has gone on to have a long-lasting solo career, too. She is a Finnish classical soprano and singer-songwriter. She co-founded Nightwish in 1996 and her dramatic, operatic vocal style combined with heavy guitar riffs popularized the symphonic metal subgenre on classic albums like Oceanborn (1998) and Wishmaster (2000). Following her departure in 2005, she launched a successful solo career with a diverse series of symphonic metal, rock, and classical albums including My Winter Storm (2007) and In the Raw (2019).
