Narnia: From Darkness to Light - August 2, 2019

The melodic heavy metal band NARNIA was formed in Jönköping, Sweden, in 1996 by guitarist Carl Johan Grimmark and vocalist Christian Liljegren. While drawing inspiration from C.S. Lewis’s high-fantasy universe The Chronicles of Narnia, the group’s legacy extends far beyond conceptual storytelling. Following an influential initial run that concluded in 2010, the band officially reunited in 2014. Narnia was part of the 1990s resurgence of melodic, traditional metal, and power metal. Narnia's guitar work builds upon the neoclassical and shred legacies of heavy metal. In addition, the music transitions from lightning-fast shredding to structured, memorable songwriting, making the guitar solos speak with melody, not just skill. Their arrangements have moved toward a more complex, progressive metal framework, pushing past simple power metal formulas while still remaining a melodic, memorable band.
