Happy birthday to Suffocation drummer Mike Smith!

For metal fans, Michael Smith (born July 16, 1971) is best known for his drumming with New York brutal technical death metal band Suffocation from 1990 until 1994 and from 2002 to 2012. He performed on their 1990 demo Reincremated, the 1991 EP, Human Waste, their 1991 debut album Effigy of the Forgotten, and their 1993 album Breeding the Spawn. Mike returned when Suffocation reformed in 2002 after a four-year hiatus and performed on their 2004 release, Souls to Deny, their 2006 self-titled album, and 2009's Blood Oath.

Besides Suffocation, Wikipedia shows that Mike is a drum instructor and studio musician that has worked on the projects Roadrunner United, in 2014 with Misanthrope Monarch (Germany), with rapper Necro for his album Death Rap and experimental metal act Psychometry. Mike has a horrorcore-influenced rap project called GRIMM REAL. Mike also works or has worked with Voracious Scourge U.S.A, Inverted Matter (Italy), and Synesis Absorption.
