in memory of TOKYO BLADE singer Vicki James Wright (1967-2026)
Vicki James Wright (February 24, 1967 - Mar 7, 2026)
The Vicki James Wright work that I know best is his singing on the 1984 album Night of the Blade by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal band Tokyo Blade. Metal Archives shows that Tokyo Blade has gone through many transitions. Starting from the beginning, they were known as White Diamond (1979–1980), Killer (1980–1981), Genghis Khan (1981–1982), and Mádäme Guillotine (1982). They returned to the name Genghis Khan (1982–1983) before becoming Tokyo Blade proper from 1983 to 1991. The band later returned from 1995 to 1998 and has been active again from 2007 to the present. Metal Archives shows that Vicki sang for Tokyo Blade from 1984 to 1986. He joined in 1984 and performed on the cult favorite album Night of the Blade. In addition to some EPs, he sang on the album Blackhearts & Jaded Spades (1985). In general, I would say that during this period, the band was a combination of British and American sounds. Their objective was to create fun, uptempo, ear-friendly heavy metal while still maintaining a heavy metal sound.
