Servants of the Mist (U.S.): Gross Knowledge of Genital Mutilation

This 3-song EP is over 24 minutes of brutal, angry gore funeral death doom of fury in the growling and heavy-duty instrumentation. The band has a single and an EP from 2013 and this EP is from 2014. I don’t know if they have more recordings or how long they have been active. At any rate, the overall emphasis of the band is on super heavy gory brutal doom. This EP demonstrates that this band means business in the area of funeral death doom. I have not read the lyrics to this EP, but I did read the lyrics for the previous EP, and the lyrics go for the angle of the murderous criminal glorifying violence. The songs, of course, deliver on the heaviness, and shun melody. From the sounds of it, the band is getting some experience, and doing some learning in the process. It will be interesting to see if in the future they persevere; and improve, not so much on the heaviness, but on the songwriting and concepts, which is the most difficult thing to master.
