celebrating the Nevermore EP - In Memory

In Memory is an EP by the American progressive/groove metal band Nevermore from Seattle. The EP was released on May 28, 1996, through Century Media Records. The recording personnel were singer Warrel Dane, guitarists Jeff Loomis and Pat O'Brien, bassist Jim Sheppard, and drummer Van Williams. The original five-song tracklist includes "Optimist or Pessimist," "Matricide," the title track "In Memory," a combination cover song called "Silent Hedges/Double Dare," and "The Sorrowed Man." People on The Metal Archives have observed that this EP showed the band transitioning into a much heavier, darker, and more technical sound: "This EP was the first display of Nevermore's 'real' sound, or at least the way they would sound on The Politics of Ecstasy and Dreaming Neon Black." Another person says: "It is with this release that they established the sound that would come to define their forthcoming albums in terms of sound, tone, and atmosphere."
