RAMONES - "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" - RAMONES trailblazing rock and roll discography

"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” is the fourth song from the Ramones' debut studio album released on April 23, 1976 by Sire Records. This is a mid-tempo, bubblegum pop–infused love song that purposely stands out on an otherwise fast-paced record: just a straightforward teenage plea for romantic connection. The song takes inspiration from American 1950s rock and roll and American 1960s girl-group harmonies: the young rock and roll the Ramones loved so much; when rock and roll was new, young and exciting as a teenage American phenomenon.

The Ramones rejected the bloated rock of the 1970s and opted for the original spirit of 1950s and early 1960s rock music, and by writing a love song with simple lyrics they also rejected the 1970s shock-value, cheapo, low-IQ degeneracy, deviancy, pedophilia and attention-seeking obscenity of 1970s rock, too.
