Dioghaltas –- new black metal from Washington state

Recently this publication shared the news of the debut recording Decomposition by the new band Dioghaltas, a Washington state, U.S. black metal band. This zine asked for some information about the origins of the group. Vocalist JK explains that “TS, RW and Lord Byrn started playing together around the end of 2019 and in February of 2020 RW approached me at a show and asked if I wanted to try out for vocals.” TS and RW play guitars and Lord Byrn plays drums. As to the meaning of the name, “Dioghaltas is Scottish Gaelic for ‘revenge’ and TS came up with the name before I was involved with the band,” says JK, who joined when the music was already underway, and then the whole band finished up things like arrangements.
Bandcamp says that the music was recorded live. When asked to elaborate on what exactly “live” means in this case, JK points out the details, “We recorded at F Studios in Sedro Woolley with my friend Brian F. And mixed/mastered by Sam Carpenter. It is recorded all live, guitars, drums and vocals all together. We did several takes of every song and picked the best ones. And there is zero overdubbing.” Therefore, the songs on the recording are as real as possible, and the band is planning to play in front of live audiences when the current political situation changes in terms of the laws for concerts. As people will notice, there is no bass guitar on the recording and they are not actively looking for one, although they are not opposed to the idea if the right situation comes up.
