review: Moonlight Haze
Moonlight Haze
Lunaris
Scarlet Records
12 June 2020
It is very unexpected that the Italian band returns with its second album one year later (technically, it is less than a year) after the debut. Credit to the band for such a good work ethic and for recognizing the benefits to themselves of keeping the machine rolling. Moonlight Haze represents the best of symphonic/melodic contemporary sounds today. The first album was good sound quality, catchy songs, lots of melody, a strong pop sensibility and good singing, of course. If they manage to release an album every year, within three years the European fans will very possibly take the band to loftier heights.
The album begins with three songs that highlight the bounce, that big pop beat that is such an important part of their ear-friendly sound. The one Italian-language song is just as catchy the first three, and its symphonic power pop metal, which is another variation of the band’s sound. On one hand, they have the catchy poppy tunes, and on the other, they feature faster, uptempo songs. As the album goes on, the symphonic/power metal comes forward. In addition, in some places, they push the speed considerably, including a bit of blasting and some extreme vocals for one song. That’s not all, the song “Nameless City” is an epic-style track, and they also have a couple in which the power ballad side is also shown. A nice variety within the style.
The European fans have consistently shown that there is a place for this music. Even though this band has only two albums so far, can you imagine what’s going to happen if this band continues with an album every year for the foreseeable future? Once their name catches on within the European fans, success will come next. The band has everything that the fans of the genre like, the catchy, pop-oriented songs and the melodic singing. Then, after Europe, the world!
