out now: Thy Worshiper - shamanic metal

Thy Worshiper is a rather unique experience. The fifth album finds them deepening their interpretation of the shamanic sounds. The eight tracks in 54 minutes requires a very patient listener willing to find out what the Polish/Irish group is all about. It is not an easy listen and it is not instant gratification, but rather the type of music that is basically impossible to absorb with a couple of listens.

They are an intelligent bunch. They begin the album as some type of black/death music, something that fans will understand: the growling, the blasting speed and other such things that are there to not freak people out from the beginning. They want to ease people into the shamanism that is at the center of what they do. It won't take very long for the listener to notice that the metal music keeps finding small bridges to the other side. Sooner or later, it will hit the listener: Things have gone into unique territories and the listener may start to panic, "Do I want to continue? Things have gotten pretty different. Where am I?"

Don't panic. You will be ok. Thy Worshiper knows very well what they are doing. It is not immature, experimental weirdness for the sake of weirdness. If you stay, all will be clear; it's just going to take a while. Again, this is what this band does, and it is an experienced band, it is not some bedroom demo solo project by an inexperienced person pushing buttons to get sampled sounds.

As long as you are interested in the idea of shamanism (or whatever else you prefer to call it) in extreme metal music, then the album will be rewarding.

Know this: Thy Worshiper began in 1993 in Poland. They live in Ireland. This is their fifth album. They have been at it for a long while. They take a long time to make albums. It takes a minute for their music to be understood, but the music is done skillfully. They hope that they can find intelligent and patient listeners willing to dedicate some time to take the journey with them.
