Blessings Chisama - melodic shred from Malawi

This recording is a solo project by a guitarist from Malawi, a small, landlocked country in Southeastern Africa. Malawi is a bit smaller than the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and the country’s population is under 20 million people. Blessings Chisama is rather ear-friendly and easy to enjoy, despite the fact that it is an instrumental guitar recording. It is remarkably melodic, making it easy for us non-musician listeners to understand and enjoy. The balanced style of melodies and shredding makes the recording more song-oriented that usually expected in this genre. The guitarist seems to be young and this appears to be his debut recording, yet the sound quality is good, as a DIY project with programmed drumming. The Blessings Chisama recording team has put together a promising work. Let’s underline it: even though the guitarist is young, the music leans towards classic-style heavy metal shred guitar in which melodies and riffs are important, as opposed to chugging, low-string plucking, no-riff, groove guitar. The guitar finger work on these compositions is fun to hear (sometimes the speed gets crazy, of course), and the melodies help a lot too. A simplistic, quick way to describe the music is that the guitar playing is similar in spirit to the melodic shredding of Eddie Van Halen, and the shredders that followed.
