review: My Heavy Memory
My Heavy Memory

My Heavy Memory (U.S.) is rock-based heavy metal with traditional, high singing, and guitars with grit and crunch. The first song “Truth in Lies” might lead people to believe that they know what they are going to get, a band like Judas Priest and whatnot, but the second song “Keep Coming Back” will put a stop to those first impressions. This tune is melodic, hard-blues heavy metal, like a contemporary muscular version of classic rock, and it has very appealing melodies. The singing shows up big time, and it’s nice that the band can play the melodic hard blues well for real. Mind you, it’s still heavy metal, but at a pace, style, and with a feel that is not common today. The next song is an uptempo-midtempo rocker, with that crunchy and galloping guitar. Now we get a much fuller picture of the singing: high, melodic, in a very classic, stadium rock style, with catchy backing vocals. Once a listener understands what this band is about: traditional heavy metal with crunch with melodic singing; big choruses/vocal lines; in other words, a rocking spirit, then everything falls in place a whole lot better. Don’t expect all the songs to be the same fast speed. The band likes to use variety in the songs.
