PRIZEHOG is "celestial space sludge" and the people of Portland, Oregon call it this music neat
Prizehog (U.S.): Re-Unvent the Whool (Eolian Empire)
Prizehog is weird; Portland weird. Just the name of the album provides an inkling of fuzzed out “celestial space sludge” that comes out of the blender that chews up Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly and vocals that sound like the cry of a whale. I doubt that a human being can sound this way without special effects on the vocals. This matter of the vocals is something that you have to hear, to decide if you want to give the music a chance. Overall, Prizehog— originally from San Francisco, relocated to Portland (because S.F., you see, is not strange enough for them)—thrives on a sense of adventure. At first the songs seem odd, which is no accident, but soon it becomes rather evident that they are memorable and fun. I recommend Prizehog to the public into all things heavy and curious coming out of Portland, Oregon, and to those with an interest in the huge wave of doom, sludge, drone, stoner and post-doom that keeps going in 2014 in general.
