Ruins: "Place of No Pity"
Having heard Ruins a lot now, I can tell you that they do just about everything right. The old Celtic Frost-style vocals, the riffs, the attitude and execution is all good, with a modern tight production.
I wish, however, that I could tell you that I have enjoyed it a lot, but somehow that has not happened. The riffs by Ruins, while no doubt good, remain too simple or bland and have failed to grasp my attention.
I have the impression that Ruins should spice up the songs. We can say that the riffs are good and use them as they are, but the band needs more hooks, more solos, more immediate-impact riffs.
Ruins has everything going for them, but I would like songs that I remember more. Or, if it’s not about remembering, than I would like songs that go all-out in energy and just pile the riffs on top of each other, and wake up the listener with sheer musical power.
I hate to sound so negative, but the beauty of it all is that you can go check it out for yourself and see what you think. Maybe you find this to be catchy? It’s not the first time that I have been wrong.
