British prog melodeath Countless Skies streaming new song "Summit" from sophomore album Glow
"Summit" is a good example of the sound of Countless Skies. They are a proggy form of melodeath with various elements: melodic and extreme vocals, quiet passages with blasting speed, and a rather ambitious approach from the axiom that "more is more" and enjoying the trajectory while pushing to impede any strict labeling of their sound. In some ways, they are a contemporary melodic brand of prog that takes inspiration from classic-style 1990s melodic death metal (not metalcore/deathcore/groove/djent metal) but certainly not limiting the music to said style in 2020. --Metal Bulletin Zine

Glow
Willowtip Records
6 November 2020
The official propaganda from Willowtip Records: UK-based melodic death metal band COUNTLESS SKIES have joined forces with Willowtip Records for the release of their newest album, Glow.
The follow-up to 2016’s full-length debut New Dawn, Glow takes the band’s progressive brand of melodeth to new heights with richly-layered instrumentation, superb musicianship and raw emotion. Thematically, Glow is based on the album’s epic title track, a 20-minute opus split into three parts.
The first single from Glow, “Summit,” has been released and is now streaming.
The bulk of the album was recorded in the home studio of guitarist James Pratt. James had this to say about the process:
“It took a lot of learning and some expensive purchases, but it did have its upside. Not under the normal time constraints of being in a studio, we could take more risks, and get better performances from everyone. We also spent a lot of time adding more layers, harmonies, and even some extra instruments.”
Glow was mixed and mastered by Juho Räihä of SoundSpiral Audio.
Willowtip Records will release Glow November 6 on digipak CD, digital and vinyl formats.
COUNTLESS SKIES burst onto the metal scene with their self-titled EP in late 2014. Blending progressive and darkly intense music influenced by their Scandinavian melodeth heroes, the EP received acclaim worldwide and began a flood of shows up and down their native UK with multiple highlights including an invitation to Bloodstock Open Air 2015.
Building upon their rapid momentum, the band soon caught the attention of Kolony Records, a deal was signed and the band began work on their debut full length.
New Dawn was released June 2016 and was praised “as an effortless display of bravado and musicianship in ways that I can’t soundly describe,” by USA’s New Noise Magazine and an impressive debut from the UK’s Metal Hammer. “Countless Skies have what it takes to really blossom in to something original and beautiful... a band with great skill and even greater potential,” stated Zero Tolerance Magazine.
With applause the world over following the release of New Dawn, the band embarked on a UK tour with Finland’s 'Whispered'. Several shorter tours followed including their first stints abroad, appearing at multiple European festivals such as Dark Troll Festival, Skaldenfest, and MetalDays.

Cult Burial
6 November 2020
The official propaganda from Cult Burial: Rarely does an extreme metal band drop out of nowhere with a fully formed sound, and yet Cult Burial do just that. While their name may imply another group hopping on the dime-a-dozen OSDM revival trend, this London group quickly show that there is a lot more than meets the eye on their self-titled début, coming hot off the back of a well-received two-track EP.
The smooth sepulchral blend flits across the spectrum; while ostensibly a modern black/death metal outfit, Cult Burial have no qualms about incorporating the crushing low-end of doom metal and post-metal. Other individual tracks branch out even further from the formula - lead single “Moribund” draws from old school death metal’s HM2-drenched tremolo, while “Plague” and “Chaos” stretch into progressive territory and showcase a real strength in dynamic songwriting - not a moment is wasted.
Aside from the songwriting, the execution of each track is magnificent. Simon Langofrd's composition pairs effortlessly with César Moreira's varied vocal delivery - potent growls and twisted snarls collide with the daring range of styles employed, from the hefty groove in opener “Dethroner” reminiscent of Belphegor to the full black/death/doom amalgamation that rounds out “Sorrow”. The lyrics, which eschew the expected Satan-worshipping traits, instead turn inward and speak on topics related to death and a sense of purpose (or a lack thereof) in captivating detail.
Despite having only two tracks to their name prior to this release, Cult Burial have already begun to build a name for themselves - No Clean Singing pegged “Sorrow” as “further proof that Cult Burial is a band to watch closely”, and it won’t be long before this album starts turning heads and causing a stir.

Descend (Single)
Prosthetic Records
16 October 2020
The official propaganda from Prosthetic Records: The most recent signing to the Prosthetic Records roster is Missouri’s SUMMONING THE LICH. The death metal four-piece have today released a single with accompanying music video for a blistering track titled Descend.
On signing to Prosthetic Records, the band had the following to say:
“We are beyond excited to announce our signing with Prosthetic Records! Some of our favorite bands old and new have been a part of the Prosthetic family and to join that group is incredible. They were always a label on our short list and their enthusiasm for our music and confidence in our direction made this decision a no-brainer.”
Merging blistering black metal speed and trudging death metal menace with ruinous technical prowess, the quartet’s new track, Descend, ushers in an exciting new chapter for the band. SUMMONING THE LICH’s sound is one rooted in musical dexterity, abrasion and fantasy, lyrically drawing from the best elements of roleplay game favourites such as Dungeons & Dragons and Magic The Gathering.
Describing the lead single, the band offered some insight on the song;
“Our single Descend is a cautionary tale on the dangers of abusing those who use magic and the true horrors that await within their world. With this song we centered the composition around the drudging chorus to really help the listeners feel the plunge into the abyss. Danny Tilson did a killer job shooting and editing our video for the track, and Mitch Myers from Orphan House was our vfx wizard. Our artist Austin Phillips nails the artwork for the single and really captured the climax of this tale visually.”
The band's rise from underground hopefuls to playing live dates alongside bands such as Origin and Beneath The Massacre - and several stops on the Summer Slaughter tour - to finding a new home in Prosthetic Records is just the start of their journey, which will continue in 2021 with the promise of yet more new material.
Descend is available on all digital platforms now, with more news regarding SUMMONING THE LICH coming soon.

David Bruno- Vocals;
Ryan Felps- Guitar;
John Flynn - Bass;

Infera Bruo (US black metal): out now Rites of the Nameless
The newest work by Infera Bruo is out now and the entire album is available for streaming/purchase on Bandcamp. The music will be of interest to fans of black metal, especially contemporary black metal that is straightforward and catchy, with some prog elements. It is not very melodic but it does have a certain accessibility, in part because of the good, upfront production. --Metal Bulletin Zine

Rites of the Nameless
Prosthetic Records
16 October 2020
The official propaganda from Prosthetic Records: Two short years after the release of Cerement, INFERA BRUO returns with Rites of the Nameless; a six part subterranean odyssey through modern blackened metal. The transformative powers of those intervening years have elicited an evolution in INFERA BRUO, captured in equal parts aggressive and melodic form here on their new album.
Threads of that ritualistic transformation are woven throughout the fabric of the album, embedded in the roots of the ensemble’s creative vision. Calling upon the occult and the power of magick to affirm their path forwards has resulted in a bold collection of songs that bristle with defiance and aggression, with subtle nods to classic metal and progressive rock.
The lyrics centre around inner turmoil and self reflection; their empirical nature retains an opaque mystery, resulting in a quality of other-worldliness that is evident throughout. The title refers to ancient unnamed societies, and the rites invoked to transform both the spirit and the flesh. The notion of ritualistic alchemy and metamorphic rites of passage have been utilised as a metaphor for personal change,
Produced, engineered and mixed by INFERA BRUO’s own Galen Baudhuin, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, Rites of the Nameless is a distinctive beast. Eschewing the lo-fi production of black metal’s Scandinavian origins, and shying away from the pristine polish often found in later subscribers of the genre, the intention was to create an honest representation of the band in its rawest form.
A foreboding atmosphere ripples throughout Rites of the Nameless, converging with a primordial energy that makes each missive both essential and thought provoking. The meditative nature of the album allows room for rumination on the cyclical nature of death, rebirth and everything in between; freedom to escape the day-to-day.

Robin Amos (synthesizer/keyboards);
Galen Baudhuin (guitar/vocals);

Celestial Season (Holland): remastered reissue of 1990s gothic death doom
Celestial Season used to be a rather elegant form of death doom with melodies and a general style of quality in the music, a certain musical sensibility that was more than just heaviness and gloom, although those things were always there anyway, but with this band things sounded a bit refined or skilled, if you will. (Later on they took their music in a more stoner direction). This compilation takes two old demos (their 1992 debut demo and a 1994 demo, which came out after their 1993 debut album). Now, it is understandable to be skeptical of these demos. "How good can old music from rusty, dust-covered demos be?" Well, if you like death doom, you might be surprised! By the way, for instance, the 1992 demo songs' sound quality was ok, but this has been remastered. If you compare the original demo (it's readily available on YouTube through various sources) with this new version, the sound quality is definitely stronger. --Metal Bulletin Zine

Sacramentum (Sweden): reissue deluxe edition of 1994 debut EP of cult-following black metal
The song below is NOT from this Vic Records version. This YouTube song below is there for purposes of information. The Vic Records version has been remastered and fans should expect the EP (fast, tight, melodic black metal) itself to sound stronger. This reissue edition also has older material that is the 1993 debut demo, and the demo does have a lower quality sound, of course, but if you enjoy demo from cult bands, this demo material should be fun to listen to, not just as a curiosity. The demo songs are rawer, more brutal and you can hear the death metal influence alongside the black metal. --Metal Bulletin Zine

Glacier: upcoming album The Passing of Time
Listen to the song "Eldest and Truest" by the formerly defunt 1980s band Glacier (USA). Their 2020 album is called The Passing of Time. This song will appeal specially to fans of traditional heavy metal. Below is the official propaganda. --Metal Bulletin Zine
GLACIER is here! The legendary US heavy/power metal band returns with a new album!
It was in 1985 where the same-titled EP of GLACIER was released, one of the greatest "mini releases" of the '80s, including 5 tracks of US heavy/power metal majesty. Few more recordings followed by various incarnations of GLACIER until 1990, when the band was put to rest.
While the legend was growing, in 2016 there was formed a tribute band under the name DEVIL IN DISGUISE (featuring GLACIER singer, Michael Podrybau) and was offered a slot at the Keep It True Festival of 2017. "DEVIL IN DISGUISE was only to perform once at a festival in Chicago, IL as a tribute set", GLACIER adding detail to the story. "We started learning/rehearsing the original material in late 2016 and, a few months later, came to find that the festival had been cancelled. With good fortune and help, we were offered a slot at the Keep It True festival for the following year and things continued to grow from there. It was sometime after our third live performance that the conversation began about using the official name. That would have been winter of 2017. We had already been in contact with other original members, who had been watching our progress and were noble enough to endorse us. By spring of 2018, we were booking dates officially as GLACIER."
After the successful Keep It True show, the band started working on new material with the idea of recording a new studio EP. However, there were a few line-up changes and after becoming GLACIER, the new goal was the recording of a full length album. "The overall tracklist is various in origins but the final shaping was a very collaborative process, with Podrybau getting in on the vocals/lyrics", drummer Adam Kopecky adds. "The conceptual direction didn't occur until we saw the original painting Daniel Charles did for us later that year, which we quickly decided to feature as the cover art."
At that moment, GLACIER already had established a perfect line-up consisting of Michael Podrybau (lead vocals), Mike Maselbas (guitar), Marco Martell (guitar, vocals), Alex Barrios (bass) and Adam Kopecky (drums).
Adding a further connection to the past, the tracks "Live for the Whip" and "Sands of Time" were originally written in the '80s and recorded by the current line-up while original members Tim Proctor (bass) and Loren Bates (drums) play on these songs. Both of them, also perform on the "Infidel" track and there is also a guest performance of bassist Phil Ell Ross (ex-MANILLA ROAD) in two songs.
Drummer Adam Kopecky adds: "There's the visual on the cover art, which sparked the idea. Then there's the thirty-some years between activity, wherein the old recordings slowly spread to new ears and the fan base grew internationally. That original cover art featured an hourglass, which of course represents time, so the album title also works as the proverbial passing of the torch. Getting to work with original members Tim Proctor and Loren Bates on previously unreleased material gave that process extra depth. We hope to carry it forward well!"

DIRE - “Forever New” Official Music Video
ABOUT: Formed in the fall of 2010, DIRE is an original heavy metal band based in Quitman, GA, currently comprised of Joran Messer (vocals/guitar) and Brandon Wade (bass).
After gaining a small local following and playing pubs and small venues in the area, 2013 saw the band's first release, a self-titled EP, recorded at EarthSound Studios in Valdosta, GA. The band, at the time still a four-piece, subsequently began booking many more dates, touring regionally, and working on new music with the intention of releasing a full-length album as soon as possible.
They began the process of recording 'Volume I' in mid-2015, partly in Nashville, TN with Jeremiah Scott (Demon Hunter, Living Sacrifice) and partly with Lee Dyess at EarthSound Studios, but funds were quickly exhausted and the recording was postponed for several months. The 15-track album was finally completed and released in August of 2016 and has received significant praise and attention from the bands consistently-growing fan base.
During the final phase of recording 'Volume I', the band parted ways with guitarist Kyle Robinson and are presently searching for a full-time drummer and rhythm guitarist.

Five Finger Death Punch - Living The Dream (Official Music Video)
"Five Finger Death Punch, also abbreviated as 5FDP or FFDP, is an American heavy metal band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2005. The band's name comes from kung fu cinema. The band originally consisted of vocalist Ivan Moody, guitarist Zoltan Bathory, guitarist Caleb Andrew Bingham, bassist Matt Snell, and drummer Jeremy Spencer. Bingham was replaced by guitarist Darrell Roberts in 2006, who was then replaced by Jason Hook in 2009. Bassist Matt Snell departed from the band in 2010, and was replaced by Chris Kael in 2011. Spencer then departed the band in 2018 due to recurring back issues, and was replaced by Charlie Engen, making guitarist Bathory the only remaining founding member of the band. In October 2020, British guitarist Andy James became the band's lead guitarist, replacing Jason Hook.
Five Finger Death Punch's debut album The Way of the Fist was released in 2007, which began achieving rapid success and selling over 500,000 copies in the United States. The 2009 follow-up album War Is the Answer further increased their popularity, selling over 1,000,000 copies and got certified Platinum by the RIAA, the band's third album, American Capitalist, was released on October 11, 2011, and achieved Gold status within the year. The following four albums—The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 1 (2013), The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 2 (2013), Got Your Six (2015), and And Justice for None (2018)—have all been certified Gold, making Five Finger Death Punch one of the most successful heavy metal bands of the decade. The band has played international music festivals including Mayhem Festival in 2008, 2010 and 2013, and Download Festival in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2017. The band released their eight studio album, F8, in 2020.

Vox Mortis: pro-animal rights death metal video "Primata Durjana"
Below is the music video for the song "Primata Durjana" by pro-animal rights death metallers Vox Mortis (Indonesia), which focuses particularly on the exploitation of domestic animals like dogs and cats. WARNING: The video is the hypothetical situation of angry dogs--tired from years of being killed for food and being abused in general--taking revenge on the human that abuses them. It is a cartoon video but is is violent and parental guidance is advised.
On September 9th, 2020 the death metal entity Vox Mortis (Indonesia) released two songs: "Primata Durjana" and "Forever No to Dog Meat." Vox Mortis is a new band by members from other bands in the scene in their country. The music is blasting-brutal death metal that calls for the formation of giant mosh pits (or a small one in your room while you are doing your homework) with a thick guitar sound and low, gruff, strong growling that seeks to make you join in the growling, even though you might not know the words to the songs.
The band says that one of the lyrical purposes is to raise awareness about the rights of animals. As already stated, "Forever No to Dog Meat" is the title of one song and it's clear what they are talking about. As we know, for some people, dogs are seen as food and the treatment of dogs is substantially worse in those circumstances, and the ethics of this topic is very important for this band.
ABOUT: Vox Mortis dibentuk oleh musisi dari beragam latar disiplin yang memiliki urgensi dalam menyuarakan isu kesejahteraan hewan domestik di bawah panji death metal.
Vox Mortis are:
Doni Herdaru Tona (Funeral Inception) - Voc
Donirro (Last Blood) - Bass
Achmad Mustaid (Vomitology) - Drums
Indonesian band Vox Mortis mark their presence in the extreme music scene by unleashing first two songs, “Primata Durjana” and “Forever No To Dog Meat”. Both are released on various digital platforms such as Joox, iTunes, Deezer, Spotify and Bandcamp on Sep, 9th 2020.
Vox Mortis formed by multidisciplinary musicians such as Doni Herdaru Tona (Funeral Inception), Achmad Mustaid (Vomitology) and Donirro (Last Blood) to raise awareness about animal welfare under the banner of death metal. The band takes music as their medium for propaganda as it works universally.
“We focus on the least protected domestic animals: cats and dogs. Some people would agree if battle is not only about war, but also through diplomacy. Meanwhile we’re ready to shed our blood, diplomacy is also important. Vox Mortis tries to embody the two sides of it,” said Doni who is also the founder of Animal Defenders Indonesia.
Vox Mortis delivers a typical style of death metal with a progressive chord twist, intense blastbeat, and raging growl vocals. They packed up a song with irony and sang it full of wrath. The composition was made to blend with some effects to create an epic atmosphere.
The band intensively produced their material and recording since Covid-19 pandemic started to spread to the whole country. This session took place at Rsharsh Leonard’s Tonebetter Soundlab.
Vox Mortis planned to release their debut album in the near future. They commit to keep agitation and propaganda for animal welfare as long as it’s needed.

Mondo Bando (Washington state, USA)
Wikipedia shows: "Mondo Bando may be the earliest documented all out original Heavy Metal band in the Seattle area dating to early 1976 to 1977. Members were: Electra Blue Vocals, Mark Maye Guitar, Carl Joseph Seltice Bass Guitar and Gary Herrman Drums. Disco Music was certainly the music of choice at that time and Punk was on the rise in Seattle so Mondo Bando was in the musical wilderness but played around 25 shows during 1976-1977. Mark Maye, Joe Seltice and the original singer Warren Ferger migrated to Seattle in 1975 from Spokane, Washington and reformed Mondo Bando with Brad Butler on Drums and played High School Dances, self promoted shows and some parties playing very hard rock. Warren Ferger left the band very early and Roger Williams joined as lead vocalist. Mondo Bando disbanded in December 1975 and then reformed again in January 1976 when they added Electra Blue and Gary Herrman to their lineup. The newly revived band then began writing their own music and went extra hard in their delivery. "We didn't call ourselves Heavy Metal, it was what people were calling us". The band once again disbanded in 1977 and it was permanent."

Metal Church (Washington state, USA)
Metal Church, one could say, has four major eras: (1) the classic 1980s period that established them as an international metal act, with David Wayne on vocals; (2) then, with Mike Howe on vocals; (3) with Ronny Munroe on vocals; and (4) the contemporary period with Mike Howe on vocals again. There are more details than that, of course, but that's one way to look at the music. Below you will find some representative songs from those four periods.--Metal Bulletin Zine
This is a very brief summmary of the history of the band, taken from Wikipedia: Metal Church is an American heavy metal band. They originally formed in San Francisco, California in 1980 before relocating to Aberdeen, Washington the following year and briefly using the name Shrapnel. Their self titled debut album was released in 1984, and their latest, Damned If You Do, was released on December 7, 2018. Metal Church is credited as a formative influence on the thrash metal subgenre, melding the aesthetics of the new wave of British heavy metal and American hard rock with "incredibly tight musicianship" and "piercingly screeched" vocals.
Founding guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof remained the group's sole consistent creative force throughout its career, despite reducing his role strictly to composition in 1986 after tiring of performing. Vanderhoof, vocalist David Wayne, guitarist Craig Wells, bassist Duke Erickson, and drummer Kirk Arrington composed the classic Metal Church lineup featured on its first two records, while later members, vocalist Mike Howe and guitarist John Marshall, also contributed to the group's sound. It was during this period that Metal Church had achieved mainstream popularity, with two of their albums—The Dark (1986) and Blessing in Disguise (1989)—entering the Top 100 on the Billboard 200 chart. Their 1991 album The Human Factor and its 1993 follow-up Hanging in the Balance also received critical praise, but did not match the success of the group's 1980s releases.
After their first break up in 1996, Metal Church reformed in 1998 with most of their classic lineup, including Vanderhoof's return to performance, resulting in the Masterpeace album. They endured numerous lineup changes thereafter, releasing three further studio albums while fronted by Ronny Munroe before disbanding once again in July 2009. The group reunited for the second time in October 2012, and released their tenth studio album Generation Nothing a year later. Following Munroe's departure in the fall of 2014, Howe rejoined Metal Church in April 2015 at Vanderhoof's request, and has since recorded two more albums with the group, which enjoyed a renewed popularity in the mid-to-late 2010s.

Junior Bruce streaming two new songs
"Florida Man Arrested for Keeping Three Alligators in His Swimming Pool" or "Florida Man Arrested for Taking His Pet Alligator into Local Walmart to Buy Cigarettes."
Those are the types of headlines that Americans read in the news. All Americans are heroes for their love of Florida Man stories.
Junior Bruce is stoner sludge from the great state of Florida, but the only reason to look into the band is because of their music. Unfortunately, they have not made the news for their extracurricular activities with alligators and snakes. On the other hand, if angry 1970s Black Sabbath-like music is your cup of tea (in Florida that is probably iced tea), then the sludge, the doom, the gloom, the misery, the anger, the big simple heavy riffs, the fat-belly hollering, it's all packed up and ready to take you home to the mystical and magical land of Florida, where the alligators show up in the morning at your front porch while you're having your breakfast. --Metal Bulletin Zine

Pray For Death
Sludgelord Records
30 October 2020
official propaganda from Sludgelord Records: Dredged from the swamps of DeLand, Florida, long-running stoner metal/sludge outfit Junior Bruce is about to unleash their fourth studio recording via Sludgelord Records. The Pray for Death LP will be released on cassette and digital formats.
Vocalist Scott Angelacos, bassist Tom Crowther, guitarist Nate Jones, and drummer Brett Tanner established the band in 2007, signing to A389 Records in 2010; that same year, Angelacos founded High Five Studios with friend Jeff McAlear. Bryan Raymond joined Junior Bruce on guitar in 2011 and the band released their debut album The Headless King with A389 in 2012.
Unfortunately, the band went through some tragic transitions over the next several years. Brett Tanner passed away in 2012, and Bryan Raymond survived a debilitating motorcycle accident in 2015. Jeff McAlear stepped into Tanner's role, while Chris Hayden replaced Raymond as the second guitarist; the band put out two releases with A389 during this time, The Ocean's Daughter EP in 2014 and full-length album Endless Descent in 2016.
Junior Bruce began a new chapter of writing and recording in 2018 with guitarist Brett Walker, who joined the band after Nate Jones's departure. Drawing influence from Black Sabbath to Motorhead, Pink Floyd, and Bad Brains, the band delivers freight train riffage that has just the right mix of menace and groove. Over the years, they've supported the likes of Pentagram, EYEHATEGOD, Integrity, Big Business, Yob, Monolord, Weedeater, and more, as well as appearing at Maryland Deathfest, A389 Bash, Mutants of the Monsters Festival, Anti-Pop Festival, and Florida Is Loud Festival. Called "bullish and blistering" by Louder Sound and "striking" by Glacially Musical, this was a band on the precipice of great things.
And just as Junior Bruce was ready to kick into high gear, the coronavirus pandemic put the music industry -- and everything else in the world -- on hold. They were able to finish recording the LP Pray For Death, with McAlear handling production duties at High Five Studios and Sanford Parker at Hypercude in Chicago, Illinois contributing his mixing and mastering expertise.
Pray For Death is the work of five musicians who have honed their creative and collaborative processes over more than a decade, overcoming many challenges along the way. Soaked in swamp muck and drenched in fuzz, Junior Bruce is a force to be reckoned with.
