Bloody Tyrant (Taiwan) -- 10 Years Anniversary European Tour Documentary EP02《暴君十週年歐洲巡演紀錄片》第二集

ABOUT: Bloody Tyrant, the folk/black metal band from Nantou, established in 2008. Bloody Tyrant released their first album "Dawn of Doomsday" that is fast, brutal, evil and dark. During the same year, they were invited to play in a Korean metal festival with the death metal band Seed, Bloody Tyrant also played with the Japanese trash metal band Deaflock in Taiwan the following year.
The EP "The Overture of Sun Moon Lake" was released in the year 2012 featuring the experimental addition of the traditional instrument Pipa and was available for free downloads. Comparing to the first album, the melodies from the EP are more elegant and beautiful, while the concept behind the EP is about the mythologies of the Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan. The EP is titled "overture" to serve as a prelude to the next conceptual album, to lead the listeners into more intriguing stories of the Sun Moon Lake.
In 2015, Bloody Tyrant released their second album "The Legacy of Sun Moon Lake" that has a deeper story telling and with bigger arrangement to present the abundancy; the beauty; the power and the sorrow of the Sun Moon Lake.
"The Legacy of Sun Moon Lake" not only features the sonorous and the beauty of the pipa from "The Overture of Sun Moon Lake", Chinese flute was also added to portray the twittering sounds of a throstle, and the addition of orchestration furtherly strengthens the musical powers of Bloody Tyrant.
The stories from "The Legacy of Sun Moon Lake" were based on the Taiwanese mythology of the twin dragons swallowing the sun and moon from the Sun Moon Lake, then added quite a lot of the band's views of politics, history and the current society to make up their own mythological work.
The album of 2017, Solitary Eagle is based on one of the stories on mountain accident in the Taiwanese author 徐如林's prose collection of the same title, dealing with the mountain's fury, the loss of mythology and human faith.

Al-Namrood (Saudi Arabia) - "Sahara Yaesa" from 2020 album "Wala'at"

About: Leave your sanctity and enter AlNamrood. After the successful release of Estorat Taghoot in 2010, we were thinking to shift our focus away from the ancient Babylon land to a hub with deeper Arabian aspect. The reason we illustrated Babylon in the first place was because the concept of AlNamrood was originated based autocratic tyrant kings where they crossed through the Arabian history, such as Nimrod & Nebuchadnezzar, it was very identical to our stream. Thus, on this time we are pronouncing the utter darkness of Arabian Peninsula.

Cathartic -- new death metal from Mexico

"CATHARTIC is created in Guadalajara, Mexico. By guitarist/vocalist Erick Beltrán and Jimmy Beltrán on guitars. Bassist Jimmy Figueroa and drummer Carlos García to complete the lineup in 2019. In June 2020 Carlos García leaves the band to be replaced by Ángel Rosales. CATHARTIC’s style of music can be defined as back to the roots Death Metal with a hint of melody and doom. A clever combination of fast, catchy riffs, blended with the right amount of slow, intense heavy parts is what makes up their sound. The band’s musical influences range from Bolt Thrower, Carcass and Sadistic Intent to Dismember, early Amorphis, Carnage and Edge of Sanity. But their intent is to have their own original style and sound. CATHARTIC has been in the studio recording the songs that will be featured on their first EP CEREMONIAL RESURRECTION. Looking for be available on vinyl/CD/digital/tape editions. With artwork by Juanjo Castellano (Avulsed, Vomitory, Revel in Flesh, The Black Dahlia Murder). Malaysian death metal band Rehearse streams 2020 album "Myth"

Biography: Return to your origins can be a hard thing to do. Sometimes it means leaving everything and everyone you know and love behind. It all start when Adly as a guitar player were searching and recruit for other 3 gentlemen of Rehearse Band (RB) now that are Yusuff (of Beneath My Wrecked) on bass guitar, after that we meet Uze on Lead Vocal. suddenly and at last we found Dash on drum. it took 3-4 months to recruit member of RB. We glad we had each other. they all have their own characters that easily can trade any ideas to form a good song/performance. We are trying not to filter any idea that crossed in our mind in song arrangement in order to get a best result in our music - RAW MATERIAL CAN BE THE GREATEST S***.
Returning to their roots means returning to the no holds barred type of Metal they heard as children. Influenced heavily from a lot of metal band such as Decide, Morbid Angel, Nile, Possession, Dark Funeral, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Death, and much more. RB are playing music of their youth but on their own terms. Without any filter on idea of element from any kind of type genre of metal in the world. Blurring the lines of what is thought to be slamming, brutal death, and metal, in future we might interesting doing some classical element on our music, hope so. RB have made a style truly all their own.

Moriah Formica

ABOUT: Albany, NY native Moriah Formica represents what many had thought to be the end of an era. A member of Generation Z who grew up on Aerosmith, 'That Metal Show', and other precious relics of the rock purist ilk from the time she was 7 years old; Moriah discovered the world of rock n' roll music through her father and quickly thereafter picked up a guitar, then the drums, and eventually pretty much any instrument that she could get in front of her. The message was clear; what had started as a source of joy was quickly developing into an undeniable passion for creating music. The future singer/songwriter would go on to write and arrange her first song, "Lovestrong" when she was only 11.
At the age of 16, Formica decided that she was ready to put her talents on the biggest stage that a teenager could dare to step on. She auditioned for NBC's 'The Voice', leaving fans around the world (and four judges with very successful careers) awestruck by her booming, declarative rendition of Heart's "Crazy On You." In that moment one thing became apparent: just like with many other great performers, it is impossible to separate the powerful, unapologetic delivery of Moriah's music from the image of the person who's performing it on that stage. For someone in the often turbulent teenage years, the excitement and nerves of being viewed on national television can't be quantified. But those watching around the world could see something more in Moriah. She wasn't just grateful for this moment, she was ready for it. Years of songwriting, honing her craft as a musician, and performing for audiences in her hometown and beyond had made sure of that.
Perhaps what new fans will find most striking about Formica's still budding career is the intersection at which her music lies. Staying true to the ethos of tried and tested rock, she weaves a seemingly effortless thread between the gnarled, firebrand voice of acts like Joan Jett, Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless ("I Don't Care What You Think", "I Will") and the soulful blues of Heart, Fleetwood Mac, and City & Colour ("Here's My Heart", "No Regrets"). Even fans of everything from Queensryche and Armored Saint to Shinedown and Evanescence will find qualities to marvel upon on tracks like "Time". And lyrically, she'll be the first to admit that her songs don't have many hidden meanings or lofty subtext. The message behind the music is always loud and clear.
2019 marks a pivotal moment in Moriah's mission. Once an eager 7 year old drawn to the swagger and emotion of rock music, the now 18 year old Formica yearns to make the kind of music that inspired her all those years ago; all while forging a sound that speaks to both the new generation and the ones before it. Her resume now equipped with accolades and live shows accompanied by the likes of Joan Jett, Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Michael Sweet (Stryper) and Maria Brink (In This Moment) just to name a few. But most important of all is the studious and disciplined approach that Moriah brings to every facet of her career. From songwriting and social media to interviews and spending time in the studio, it all adds up to a work ethic that's beyond reproach. There's no gimmick to this overnight sensation, regardless of what the critics might say. The formula is simple: show up, rock out, and leave the whole world asking, "who was that?"
They won't be asking much longer.

review: Diamond Rexx (U.S.) -- the return of the 1986 line-up

Diamond Rexx
Psych Ward
Diamond Recordings / Pavement Entertainment
28 August 2020
The U.S. band Diamond Rexx plays a type of hard-rocking glam/punk heavy metal, like early Twisted Sister and Motley Crue with a Motorhead vibe with Paul Di’Anno on vocals singing sleaze rock songs. Their debut came out in 1986, and after that they have done three other albums before this new one. They have had their problems and long periods of inactivity like a lot of the 1980s cult bands, but what’s interesting in 2020 is that their new album has the same line-up as the debut.
The new work is classic-rock heavy metal, with anthemic songs, a hard-driving style for rocking out. With the exception of the slower tune “Ur Everything,” all the songs (the last one is the Motorhead cover “Ace of Spades”) have a big-rock riffing style that fans of traditional heavy metal enjoy with bands like Saxon, Motorhead and Twisted Sister. The singing style is still a type of sleaze/punk Paul Di’Anno. The lyrics are rock and roll as expected: women, motorcycles, trash talk, like a band that has been doing a residency in Las Vegas strip bars for decades. Fans of heavy metal with a hard rock edge might enjoy the sound of Diamond Rexx 2020.

review: Poema Arcanvs -- death doom

Poema Arcanvs
Stardust Solitude
Transcending Obscurity Records
28 August 2020
It is likely that the most necessary quality when listening to this album is patience. If a person knows that they are patient then things might go very well, but if not, patience can also be learned, and what better teacher than this band? The devoted fans of doom may already be aware of this band and its previous five albums, but let’s not assume any of that. Let’s open this as a new can of worms. This is midtempo (not super slow like drone or funeral stuff) and it is midtempo (not fast, not slow) throughout, and consistently so. It is headbobbing music, and in the live setting fans might bang their heads kind of slowly or just keep nodding their heads in approval. It is a very comfortable and accessible type of pace. Some people will absolutely love the pacing of the music. As a doom work, this avoids the slow extremes. The sound quality of the recording should be impressive to listeners. The bass guitar is very audible, and the drums sound good and strong. The band uses a bit of melody, but not too much, so once in a while the guitars take a break from the heavy riffs and provide a bit of melody. The vocals are a deep gruff growl, and also a desperate, sad, depressive wail for the melodic singing. With a duration of 56 minutes, the band is signaling that they are aiming for a great album that the dedicated aficionados of doom will appreciate. Metal Archives shows that the previous album is from 2012; therefore, assuming Metal Archives is correct, something has been going wrong for the band to take this long to make a new album, but with this work they mean to regain the lost ground. They do sound like they have in mind to make an album that, if not their best ever, can stand the test of time in terms of their discography.
One possible negative thing to consider is that the album is too monotonous. It stays at midtempo throughout and this could be a problem for fans who prefer more variety in moods. This is why it is important for the consumer to consider whether they are prepared or willing to tackle almost an hour’s worth of midtempo doom that also does not offer too much melody.

Incarnate Deity (South Africa) is "symphonic blackened Christian death metal." The album Theodicy was released on August 14th, 2020.
ABOUT: "A blend of death and black metal, with symphonic orchestration. For fans of SepticFlesh, Dimmu Borgir, Carach Angren, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Antestor, Temple of Perdition Band Members: Zerachiel - guitars, bass, vocals, orchestration, drum programming"
As the Sun begins to rise
Hope erodes these murderous skies
I know that pain is at an end
Because of the embrace of my best friend
Remove the clouds from my worried soul
Part the oceans and make me whole
Remove the smog from my lonesome soul
Move the mountains and make me whole
I no longer endure the flame
Someone else has donned my shame
A bloodied rag that is made new
A filthy road washed by the dew
Remove the clouds from my worried soul
Part the oceans and make me whole
Remove the smog from my lonesome soul
Move the mountains and make me whole
(Restore my sight
Remove this blight
End of Night
Through the Lord of Light)
A bloodied rag made anew
Part the oceans
Move the mountains
Part the oceans
Move the mountains
And make me whole
End of Night
Through the Lord of Light

The Knickers (Brazil)

Biography: Formed in 2007, The Knickers came up with the proposal to make a heavy sound that circulated well and truly between Hard Rock and Classic Heavy Metal. Empowerment and attitude make it stand out in this scenario that is not receptive to female bands.
In 2009 they recorded the first album called “Motherfucker” and in 2010 it was released at one of the biggest rock festivals in Fortaleza, Forcaos. Many concerts took place and important facts gave inspiration for the band to launch the EP "Figth For The Life", which translates well all the machismo and feminicide that fight to not happen, every day, with all women.
Among the 10 years on the road, the following can be highlighted: Forcaos (2011 and 2012), Programa Cena Rock (2011); Selective Wacken Open Air (2011); IV Rock Cordel in Juazeiro do Norte (2012); Opening of the show by the band Crucified Barbara (Sweden) (Brasília 2012) hg Opening of the show by Steelwing (Sweden) - Fortaleza 2014

review: Plague Organ -- hypnotic industrial-drone-metal

Plague Organ
Orphan
Sentient Ruin Laboratories
August 28, 2020
Huge congratulations to me! Today was a big day for me. I had the super human strength and stamina to withstand everything that this album could throw at me. I survived. I am a Plague Organ survivor. I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me roar.
This is pure genius. That, or, they could be the biggest scammers since Milli Vanilli. You decide. Here’s the situation:
1.The album is one tracks that lasts 39 minutes.
2.This is uptempo industrial-drone-metal without guitars, just bass, drumming and (soft, gentle) growling.
3.This is highly, highly repetitive or circular.
4.One result of this music is that the listener goes into a type of hypnosis or trance.
5.This duo should have put a hypnotic circle on the cover of the album, or should do it for the YouTube version for people to look at while listening.
How much is actually played (by humans using their hands for bass guitar and drums) is questionable. The drums seem like programmed or sampled sounds and there is bass guitar and synths, and vocals, but given that this is very repetitive/circular, this literally sounds like the following: about 5-15 seconds of bass guitar that has been copied and pasted for some 37 minutes. A drum beat copied and pasted for 37 minutes. The beat is a very up/down industrial-type machine-like uptempo beat, and every several minutes there is a very brief drum roll. There is an ongoing continuous computer-like chant taking place throughout, enhancing the sensation of hypnosis. The vocals are sparse and it is a gentle, cave-dwelling giant whisper-growling from a distance far away, and the giant is trying to lull you into hypnosis or sleep.
The last two minutes is some type industrial alien noise that repeats until the end.
See?! Genius, right? That. Or, this is all one big joke. You have been had by Plague Organ. Was it fun?!
Alrighty then! Get your wallet out because these Dutchmen, Marlon Wolterink and René Aquarius, are ready for and they gave me a message for you: "Tell'em to bring me my moneyyyyyyy!"
(The excerpt available below is a very good illustration of the whole album. Just imagine it going on and on for 35 more minutes. Hypnosis awaits.)

review: Radiant Knife -- proggy sludge

Radiant Knife
The Body
28 August 2020
This recording is actually more accessible than the band name might otherwise suggest. The name might make you think of the genre of “serialkiller, methsicko, sewerdwelling, squatterdrugaddict, little-skill-big-mouth, punkcrustsludge, garagerodent, noisetoiletjunkie” music. Phew! It’s not that! That’s good because today I am not ready for the latest band playing “serialkiller, methsickso, sew” ah, forget it, I am not going to spell that genre again. I’m not ready for that genre, that’s my point. I mean, c’mon, my parents have sent me to Alaska to live with grandma now, you know, and I can’t be blasting music like that around her because she’ll be like, “I think you need help, Angie! I’m calling the cops!” and then they will drag me to the asylum again and I just got out last month and I don’t want to go there so soon again. I’m taking my medication and trying to stay out of trouble, you see.
But enough about me. How have you been? You’ve been alright? Awesome. I’ve been watching a lot of Jeopardy lately and listening to Radiant Knife. So, about Radiant Knife. (Oh, by the way, I have finally stopped carrying a knife in my purse. My counselor says that I’m showing maturity by not needing to hide weapons in my purse anymore now that I am out of the asylum and living with my grandma in rural Alaska where I do not encounter other people unless we go to Bob’s Corner Store some ten miles from here). This recording has a very nice quality to it in that it sounds good to the ear. The thumping noise (they don’t have bass guitar, apparently) and the drums sound great. You can hear the noise of the cymbals (assuming it’s drums, who knows these days).
The music itself is doomy in a sludgy way in tone but uptempo, with a certain rock flair (wooo!), that makes the music sound good, and not boring, and most importantly, not annoying (you know how some sludge just sounds like a gremlin witch having a temper tantrum in slow motion) even though it is heavy, simple Sabbath-ish riffs. Well, not so simple because they have a certain progginess. The guitar sound is sludge but the songwriting is a bit proggy and uptempo, making this way spicier than normal doom or sludge, and putting them in a bit of a different niche. The vocals are not gremlin witch style, but have some singing and some (not annoying) screaming, and there seems to be lots of reverb (or effects) on the vocals for a trippy-tricky feel.
If you would like to hear band as heavy as sludge but with a proggy and spicy take on that heaviness, then you just might be the person that this band is looking for. Alright, well, I can’t tell you anymore about this music because Jeopardy is on now and I want to see what the answer is for the “Final Jeopardy” round. Grandma and I consider Alex Trebek a Canadian treasure.

review: The Riven (Sweden) -- proto metal rolling back the hands of time

The Riven

Technology is nice. Take the wheel as an example. The wheel helps me to roll stuff around and rolling is good many times when I need it. I wish that when I was growing up I had used wheels when I was building the pyramids for the king. You can’t imagine how much extra work it was for me to build the pyramids without the wheel. I also like modern technology like color television. When I was growing up during the Great Depression I didn’t have a radio, telephone or much less a television set at home. I watched black and white tv for decades before color. Nowadays I watch all my favorite shows in color, except for Leave It to Beaver because that was made before color tv. My new favorite shows are Wheel of Fortune, which debuted this year, and The Partridge Family, The Odd Couple, The Brady Bunch, and especially Happy Days. When I grow up I want to be cool like those characters on Happy Days.
Don’t get me wrong. Technology is good, but I think we depend on it too much. That’s why I think that time should stop this year. No more technology now that Wheel of Fortune has debuted this year. Technology is getting out of control. The other day I heard a crazy pundit say that in the future everyone will have a computer at home! Can you imagine trying to fit one of those gigantic mainframes into the living room?! No way! They also said that in the future musicians will not need instruments because the computers will make all the music. Just press the buttons to make music! No instruments, no musicians needed. You won’t need Jimmy Page!? What kind of future is that?
I like the way that music is made now, made by musicians using their hands, feet and mouths to play instruments. The other day I saw this new band, and they were called Judas Priest. I think I remember that they said that they have an album called Rocker Roller. Anyway, they’re a new band and they probably won’t amount to much. I remember their song “One for the Road” and also the song “Rocker Roller,” and another one called “Run to the Mill.” They have only one album, but they were pretty good live. I think the singer’s name was Bob Hartford or something like that. I hope they don’t break up! My mother finally bought me the new Led Zeppelin album Physical Graffiti that came out this year. They are the best! I still have not seen them live because my parents don’t want to buy me the tickets. It’s too expensive, they say. Anyway, my sister came home with a new record today by this band called The Riven. I have never heard of them but they are good! Not as good as Led Zeppelin, obviously, nobody is, but I am enjoying their music. It’s actually very fast, like Zep’s “Rock and Roll.” The Riven has good singing and their sound is right on for the rock and roll that I like, rock and roll with high energy. Maybe if The Riven come to this town maybe I could go because the tickets would not be as expensive as Led Zeppelin. This The Riven record is only two songs but they are good and I hope that they make more records.
I would tell you more about The Riven right now, but Happy Days is about to start and I don’t want to miss it. I wonder what Fonzie is going to do this episode! He’s the best!
