socially unacceptable, disgusting, vulgar, degenerate grind from France: ATARA / MISERABLE FAILURE (Kaotoxin Records)
A bit of info on this album.
"Being the grand-child of Punk, Grindcore is well-known for its social / political oriented lyrics and concepts and its overall wish for a more equal society but to achieve this, these two French acts have decided that a first step has to be made and they’re blasting it out to you with what they think should be done first and foremost to autorities, all the ones that one way or an other are establishing rules and dictate the way things are : « HANG THEM ! »
Atara, already known for their crushing yet groovy brand of Grindcore are back with six brand new tracks showing a move towards a darker approach blending a bit of Black Metal riffing there and there in their tunes while Miserable Failure are back with eight brand new tracks showcasing how nihilistic and apocalyptic blending many different influences like Hardcire, Black Metal, etc. in Grindcore can be.
Definitely NOT your usual Grindcore release, « Hang Them » is the noose that’ll suffocate your dry throat in an auto-erotic hatesphyxiation"

disease-ridden, maggot-covered scumbag discharge-ing punk: ELECTRIC FUNERAL (Sweden): "TOTAL FUNERAL" with 53 tracks
Knowing nothing about these good-for-nothing disgusting punks, here's the PRESS RELEASE info for you to decide if this is for you.
This is like Discharge, but of course, filthier, rawer and noisier.
"The vicious brainchild of Jocke D-takt, also of Paranoid, Desperat, Warvictims, Totalt Jävla Mörker and countless other acts, ELECTRIC FUNERAL’s purely pissed-off style explodes out of the speakers with relentless noise and unfuckwithable energy. The artist surges with the sounds of Anti-Cimex, Gloom, Discharge and the like to blazing speeds in the vein of Disclose and Krömosom, and charges straight at the listener with unstoppable force from beginning to end of every single track recorded to date, all of which are now packed into Total Funeral. Containing every filthy, goddamned, d-beat-ridden anthem by ELECTRIC FUNERAL, the Total Funeral discography boasts over an hour-and-a-half of carnage with fifty-three tracks in total, including the Harvester Of Death, Make Noise Not War, D-Beat Noise Attack, The Face of War, Make A Change, Gröndalen, In League With Darkness and Order From Disorder releases, the split with Go Filth Go, and even several previously-unreleased and new/unreleased tracks."

for the initiated in doom: Dread Sovereign (featuring Primordial members)
Dread Sovereign (Ireland): All Hell's Martyrs (Ván Records)
Dread Sovereign vocalist Alan Averill and drummer Simon O’Laoghaire play together in long-running entity Primordial, which is not bleak enough for them, given that this album takes cold depressive alienating sounds to places that only initiated doomsters or zealot Primordial followers would be willing to go. Alan sings in a slow, despairing, occult-like voice, pouring out his soul. Dread Sovereign goes for the coldest and most self-absorbed sounds in the sense that it purposely requires lots of attention to understand. The guitar work is in its own sphere, oblivious to an audience, except for the guitarist Bones himself and the band. Unmelodic and ear-unfriendly, Dread Sovereign is not for the casual listener. Be prepared for a slow descend, and expect not an easy trip. Dread Sovereign is not pandering to anyone. Only the doomed need apply.

the old-style doom of CARDINALS FOLLY
Cardinals Folly (Finland): Our Cult Continues! (Shadow Kingdom Records)
Cardinals Folly used to be called The Coven, which means that Cardinals Folly origins reaches back into 2004, at least, according to Metal Archives. Cardinals Folly prefers a minimalist sound of guitars, bass, drums and vocals. It sounds very honest, and I get the feeling that the band can replicate this music on stage. Cardinals Folly would maybe appeal to those into the rawer sounds of Pentagram/Saint Vitus. Obviously, this band is not big into using all the latest technology to robotize the music. A word about the vocals, Cardinals Folly, to me, goes for an old-style delivery, sounding garage and hippy-ish in a Blue Cheer-ish or Iron Butterfly-ish sort of style. The voice, to me, does not take over the music and just mixes well with the heavy chords. The vocal style is pretty quirky and peculiar, so you might have to adjust to ears to this sound, as it is definitely a niche sound, of the old garage doom.

the retro doom rock of BRIMSTONE COVEN
Brimstone Coven: Brimstone Coven (Metal Blade)
Somewhere between Sabbath and Steppenwolf, between doom and classic rock proper, that’s where Brimstone Coven does the dirty deeds. They are just playing the tunes as in the style of 70s classic rock, while leaning on the heavier side of the spectrum. The sound quality is clear; the human element stands out; the variation between subtle and loud creates a very different experience. Who knows how these bands have figured out how to achieve these sounds, but it’s quite a feeling to put this on and listen to the mentality of the band to create this. They wanted to sound like a band that would hypothetically tour with Deep Purple, Sabath, Steppenwolf, Foghat, Grand Funk Railroad, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult and other bands like that. It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll all night and party everyday with the agents of fortune on the magic carpet ride of the electric funeral's hand of doom and the wizard, oh, the wizard and his black dog staring at the smoke on the water over the rainbow they will never catch, dazed and confused, fearing the reaper's day is arrived.

VESTAL CLARET hates metal music that has a message to help you live better
Vestal Claret (U.S.): The Cult of Vestal Claret (Cruz del Sur Music)
Traditional heavy metallers Vestal Claret seem like a band that hates it when they hear metal musicians attempt to justify or apologize for metal’s socially unacceptable traits, like when a band says that they have a “positive” message about “believing in yourself,” and make it appear like metal music is some sort of life coach for people who need encouragement or reassuring.
No. Vestal Claret is not that way. If metal offends some people’s feelings, religious or social beliefs, well, that’s fine, it’s not for them. Or, if you hate it when you see metal musicians going around saying, “We are not really Satanists or into blasphemy. We are just having fun with some silly images, you know, like you see in the movies. We’re just normal dudes, like you.”
No. Anyway, what do you care if someone thinks you are a Satanist? You play blasphemous or sick music, so what? Are you asking for people’s approval or what?
No. Vestal Claret has songs about witches, murder, evil and the occult. There is no “positive” message about living your life better, in a more “healthy” way that helps interact with your classmates or neighbors. This music is mentally deranged, and that’s that.
Vestal Claret is traditional-conservative occult-theme heavy/doom metal for those into other cult metal like Manilla Road, Brocas Helm and Cirith Ungol. They don’t sound like those bands, but they are quirky, strange and metal like those bands.

Should your band look for a record company? KAINE offers their view
"Kaine has been negotiating with a number of established European record labels over the past month and despite having firm offers the band has decided to decline these deals.
This is due to a number of reasons ranging from the labels wanting a high % of merch sales taken at gigs, total control over digital income to little or no income on any records sold and for the lack of any real plan, investment or advantage over releasing our material ourselves.
The band funded “The Waystone” entirely, to be essentially offered 50-100 free CDs to sell from these labels (we can produce our own CDs reasonably with Cram Duplication anyway) in return for the rights over our album with little or no % of sales offered to the band we didn’t believe these were fair or realistic offers. The album was a significant cost to the band and our objective is to break even on this cost, none of these offers would have allowed this to happen and would have resulted in a loss while essentially allowing them to make a small profit from our hard work.
Our own CDs are selling well presently and we take 100% of the income minus a little for selling through bandcamp/CD Baby. We also retain 100% of our digital and merch income. This puts us in a very strong position moving forward.
Kaine recently managed to negotiate a decent deal with a label in America which saw a fair % of return for sales and would have even lead to the album being released on vinyl, but this has also fallen through with them not being able to commit to their end of the agreement. We are very disappointed that this deal did not work out.
The band has not been disheartened by this process, we have had bad experiences with labels in the past and are keen not to return to a loss making situation once more. As stated we are in a very strong position and while we may lack the investment to buy our way onto major festivals, supports and tours and into the established magazine we will continue to work hard, playing every show we can and try and buck the trend and be a success through hard work in what is a dying “Metal” industry. We will continue to be 100% honest about what’s happening with the band and the challenges we face within the “industry”."
www.kaine-metal.com
NWOBHM-influenced young metal: KAINE (U.K.)
Kaine (U.K.): The Waystone
Bruce Dickinson has at times observed that one difference about Iron Maiden is the way that the band’s guitarists write smooth melodies and riffs, and that this way of composing has nothing to do with being “heavy,” and doing these chugging chords that are obnoxiously loud, impressing in particular the younger listener through tricks of volume and noise. Traditional-conservative heavy metallers Kaine appear to understand Bruce Dickinson’s point perfectly well: metal music is not about how heavy your music is, actually. If you think about it, there are many, many currently famous and successful non-metal rock bands that sound heavier, chunkier and chuggier than heavy metal like Kaine.
Metal music as Kaine understands it, is about riffs, melodies, guitar work in general, songwriting, singing and overall talent. Kaine is in no competition to have the heaviest sound. It’s easier to be loud, than make the effort to write riffs and make a coherent song. This is Kaine’s second studio full-length album, according to Metal Archives. Early Maiden seems like an influence here, in the smooth melodies and riffs; you may also detect other New Wave of British Heavy Metal sounds, perhaps Blitzkrieg or Angel Witch; in places, such as the song “The Waystone” the band expands into more proggy territory, with keys and other mellower passages, which again, can be seen as a Steve Harris influence, through his love of 70s prog.
The creative energy of the band is their most positive strength, in my view. If late 70s-early 80s metal interpreted by a younger band looks an appealing proposition, put Kaine in your list. You’ll be glad you did. Hoping we have not heard the last of this unsigned band. www.facebook.com/kaineband

the obscurantist melancholy of Nightfell (U.S.): The Living Ever Mourn (Southern Lord/Parasitic)
Nightfell (U.S.): The Living Ever Mourn (Southern Lord/Parasitic)
How would it sound if black/death metal is slowed down to a steady uptempo pace? In other words, Nightfell has pulled the curtains behind the music and has decided to let people hear, really hear, the riffs, melodies and songs, without attempting to fool anyone with overwhelming speed and noise. That way, nobody says, “I really like the speed” and says other things that don’t mean anything. After all, lots of bands can play fast in all sorts of rock music. That’s the difference with Nightfell. Somewhere between melancholic doom (no core/no stoner) and the black/death metal vocals and guitar work is where this music stands. The attention to detail to the songwriting is very noticeable. The band might not prefer these references, but if you like the somber aura of the first two Opeth, early Katatonia and early Paradise Lost, then you know that there is a certain melancholy in that music, and Nightfell has a similar aura. Here and there, shades of the metal’s past are traceable in certain passages, for instance, in “Empty Prayers,” you will hear a tribute to “Frost”-era Enslaved’s song “Yggdrasil” in the low-toned chant-like vocals, the repeated pick-scraping on the guitar, and overall atmosphere. Or, Nightfell’s interlude “I” recalls Bathory’s “Odens Ride over Nordland” in the slow atmosphere, the soft chanting in the background, and the glorious horses neighs (which might be sampled from Bathory). All of this says that there is a tradition of which Nightfell is mindful. Nightfell seeks initiated and acolyte listeners who are willing to answer the call for obscurantist melancholy. www.nightfell.bandcamp.com

Mournful Congregation (Australia): Concrescence of the Sophia (20 Buck Spin)
No wonder that for some people, Mournful Congregation is acclaimed as one of the premier bands in the field of funeral doom. The essential reason for the acclaim could be that this melancholic funeral death doom gives the listener sad melodies and rhythms to remember. The band does play at an excruciatingly slow pace, with no uptempo vibes at all, but the songs have a hypnotic, repetitive charm that encourages the listener to let the song go where it will go, regardless of the time; and that is the best compliment: just let it play until it ends. This recording is almost 31 minutes: one song is about 22 minutes and the other about 9 minutes. The misery pours out smoothly to the wonderfully slow melancholy of funeral doom. www.mournfulcongregation.com

heavy metallers KATAGORY V (Utah, U.S.) ends; issues statement
Hello everyone,
Now that the campaign has ended, and was sadly unsuccessful, it is time to make an announcement concerning the future of Katagory V.
As much as I pains me to say this - I am officially announcing that Katagory V is no more. I have been trying to be positive for the past three years in hopes that the band would regroup, release the 5th album and continue on in some capacity, but as of today, it appears very unlikely that it will ever happen. It is financially impossible and economical to do so and still compete on a any level along side our peers. This indiegogo campaign was a true test to see if Katagory V was still relevant, If our fan base was large enough and dedicated enough to rally support & funding, if people still wanted to hear our music, and if we could survive the wild west of the digital age. This did not happen - We and over estimated our popularity and relevance in the heavy metal music scene. Because of this, there is no purpose for Katagory V to continue.
Throw in a recession a few years ago, causing some band members to become jobless or financially strapped, going through divorces, having heath issues and expenses, losing places to rehearse/write/record, record labels being passive and flaky with communication & commitments, or just flat out showing general disinterested in working with us, and the music industry itself as a whole becoming a huge question mark and extremely unreliable; When you take ALL OF THAT into consideration, coupled with our failed indiegogo campaign, the end result made our "Middle-to-Lower-class" band obsolete and unable to survive in the new musical climate of free-culturists, Tech-utopians, and those who feel that there is a money tree outside that supplies us with an endless supply of capitol to harvest from, so we can continue to create our art and exploit it ourselves. It is virtually impossible to do so when you have financial and moral responsibilities OUTSIDE of your music. Sorry for the small diatribe, but this is really what it all boils down to at the end of the day. This is the reality of being a musician today… and this is the future of music.
Concerning the unreleased 5th album, "Resurrect the Insurgence ", which was indeed completed and ready to be release for almost 4 years now; it is now in limbo. We are currently discussing a digital-only release, but because the band is done, it almost seems anti-climatic to do so - as if it is a participation trophy for ourselves and the true Katagory V fans who really wanted us to continue on. This is not what we wanted to see happen, however, we are considering the possibility and discussing the option.
We came so close… yet so far. It is my opinion that this album would have been what finally set Katagory V apart from many other metal bands in our genre, as well as raising the bar for ourselves as musicians and songwriters; Not speaking for other members of the band, I honestly feel that everyone involved with the new album, including the three newest band members, Albert, Kris and Bizzaro, as well as the outside talents of Dennis (Ward), who all put in 110%, created a final product that far exceeded my own high expectations and rivaled anything we have ever released in the past. It could have been the album to finally gain Katagory V the due respect for our creative output, which is something we've always wanted since the beginning, but alas, we will probably never know if that would have been the case or not…
It is unfortunate that Katagory V never really reached a point in it's career where the band was able to create a large respectable following, or foothold in the scene, one that would allow us to be self-sustaining financially in this current musical climate, and permit the band to grow and progress creatively. At best, Katagory V had garnered a small, loyal cult following of fantastic and loving fans & friends scattered across the globe, all of whom we truly love and appreciate for their dedication and support over the years. We would have not even made it this far, or lasted this long, had it not been for their continued interest in our music. A huge thanks goes to them for even making Katagory V possible! Cheers to you!!!
The amps are being turned off, mics and cables are being boxed up, and the lights in the room are turned off. Thanks to everyone for the memorable ride and 15 years of rebellion!
Cheers!

Small Stone Records Destroyed By Floods; Fundraiser Launched
Last week, debilitating storms dumped flood water throughout the Detroit area, including the offices of Small Stone Records, label home of Sasquatch, Wo Fat, Greenleaf, Lord Fowl, Dixie Witch, Roadsaw and so many others. Gear and product were both destroyed and insurance is only going to go so far, so we're coming together to help Scott Hamilton from Small Stone with some of the massive expense of cleaning up from this flood. Hamilton's support for heavy music in the near two-decades that he's run Small Stone has never wavered and this is a chance to help somebody who's helped us by enriching our lives with great bands and great riffs.
A recent post by The Obelisk details, "It was painful last week to see the pictures of the Small Stone Records offices, flooded out from powerful storms that tore through the Detroit area. Still sealed label product floating through dirty water, files and CDs, the fruit of countless hours of work on the part of label owner Scott Hamilton, simply ruined. In one of the pictures, however, you can also see a floating vacuum cleaner, and that's also important, because it reminds us that more even than being where kickass riffs come from, this is somebody's home.
Scott is somebody whose tastes and whose efforts have helped greatly to shape the course of American heavy rock in the last decade-plus. Whether you're a fan of Dixie Witch or roadsaw or Sasquatch or Wo Fat or anyone else on his enviable roster, chances are even if you don't listen to those bands, someone in a band you listen to does. Small Stone has become the standard-bearer, and you can see the influence it has had not only in bands going for 'that Small Stone sound,' but also in labels who have come up in the last several years wanting to support the music they're passionate about in a similar way.
But again, this is about more than music. It's Scott's house too, and that's why it's so important that this community comes together to help him out. You and I are part of a worldwide subculture. Don't believe me? Go to a show anywhere and look around you. It's the same every place you go, and that's no mistake. One of our own - someone who's directly participated in making this weird, ongoing thing to which we belong - needs our help. Frankly, that should be enough to make you want to get involved."
Donations are being taken through the middle of next month, but since it's a water cleanup process and there's the ever-present threat of mold, time's a factor.

this is the veteran death metal of LOUDBLAST (France)
Loudblast (France): Burial Ground (Listenable Records)
Loudblast’s early recordings are from 1985, and the debut “Sensorial Treatment” (1989) stands at the line between thrash and death, while “Disincarnate” (1991) is full-fledged death metal. “Sublime Dementia” (1993) ups the level of musicianship. In short, Loudblast goes a long way back, from the 80s, 90s, to today, with a couple of pauses in action throughout that time.
Loudblast 2014 is in its own world of death metal, with old and newer values coexisting. What really stands out, in my opinion, is the band’s refusal to be retro or to rehash “old school” riffs, while still working with a fairly traditional death framework. They are doing something right, challenging themselves and finding other ways to be death metal, other ways to be Loudblast. The band represents quality in death metal, maintaining a certain classic-style execution, while utilizing a rather modern production. The album is solid, memorable, and one that I recommend to those listeners that are a bit pickier about the genre.
Unfortunately, some reviews have said that Loudblast is not too memorable or that there is something that doesn’t connect with the listener. Yet, the evidence shows that this is not the case at all: Loudblast is as catchy as can be: “Darkness Will Abide,” “Soothing Torments,” “From Dried Bones,” all show a band that is able to write compositions with direct impact. “From Dried Bones” demonstrates that Loudblast can bring melody in a big way to its traditional death metal whenever those passages are desired. Loudblast could make all the songs this way, which would make it all a formula of “melodic death metal,” but Loudblast is death metal, not “melodeath.”
On the other hand, a song like “I Reach the Sun” is purposely less linear, a bit doomier and less melodic. But it’s the interplay between different sides of Loudblast, that’s where the fun is. Actually, “I Reach the Sun” goes into death metal mode in some segments and even has small touches of melody, so it’s not like it’s something strange. It’s too bad that the album has been received with such narrow expectations, but it’s not like Loudblast has gone off the deep end here. It’s still very much traditional death metal, with a few nods to different forms of modern metal. The vocals remain deep and gruff; the riffing says “death metal” on it; the soloing is enjoyable; and the skills and experience of the band are obvious.
The people in Loudblast know what they are doing; they are not new to this game. I’m pleased with this album, and will definitely keep it in the library for future listens. Personally, I trust that the old man Stéphane Buriez and company know themselves, so I’m not going to dismiss the veterans as if they are some new-jack band in town, especially when the work has so many positive aspects, and virtually nothing about which I can complain. www.loudblast.org

for those that love prog (no core) metal: CHRONOS ZERO (Italy)
Chronos Zero (Italy): A Prelude Into Emptiness
(Bakerteam Records)
Chronos Zero could be quite the discovery for those into quality prog metal with real singing. It sounds like Symphony X, Dream Theater and other highly regarded prog metal acts now have some fresh competition from Italy! Luckily, Chronos Zero is not music for musicians. It’s prog and talented, but if I, the non-musician, can understand it, then I feel like other non-musicians probably can understand it, too. I enjoy a fair amount of prog metal, and I think that this band fits rather well with the other prog metal nowadays.
The riffing sounds, to me, a bit groove/thrashy/chuggy so that gives the band a heavier feel than expected. The rhythm guitars play rhythm, not mini solos all over the place, but it seems to me that guitar aficionados should find plenty to feast their ears on. This album lasts over an hour and it sounds like a concept album, although I don’t have the lyrics to confirm this. Overall, the album is one of those that goes for an epic, grand style; it’s probably safe to say that the band took a long time to write and record this album, which is its debut. The singing is strong-throated, traditional male singing. At the same time, the band makes use of female, high singing to contrast with the lower voice.
Prog-friendly listeners that haven’t heard Chronos Zero would find the music a worthy subject of research. Symphony X and Dream Theater supporters, why not give this band a chance? www.chronoszero.com www.facebook.com/chronoszero

PRESS RELEASE: Solace Of Requiem Casting Ruin ViciSolum Productions Release: 29 August 2014
PRESS RELEASE
Solace Of Requiem
Casting Ruin
ViciSolum Productions
Release: 29 August 2014
ViciSolum Productions has announced the August 29 worldwide release of Casting Ruin, the newest album from Virginia-based extremists SOLACE OF REQUIEM.
The fourth release from this criminally under-recognized Technical Blackened Death Metal trio, Casting Ruin is without a doubt the band’s finest hour. These nine highly evolved, yet relentlessly violent tracks are as listenable as they are devastating. ChroniclesOfChaos.com called Casting Ruin “one mean, complex, stupefying and brutal motherfucker,” but words alone cannot describe this contender for 2014’s most metal album. Check out album tracks “. Soiling the Fields of Putridity” and “Heaving Bile and Ash” at vicisolumrecords.bandcamp.com/album/casting-ruin
Classically Composed / Brutally Rendered . . Casting Ruin, will prove to be a benchmark in brutal, atmospheric and technical song writing. Incorporating the study of binaural audio into their already complex structures, SOLACE OF REQUIEM has used this knowledge to facilitate the unorthodox poly-rhythms and complex writing style found in their latest work. If you were to hard-pan your speakers left, and then right, you would practically hear two separate songs. Combining these two songs creates the illusion of a third (main) song. This is the technique from which SOLACE OF REQUIEM has created it's original sound, unique to any known genre of death metal or black metal.

PRESS RELEASE: BLACKWOLFGOAT Drone Maintenance Small Stone Release: 26 August 2014
Progressive drone project, BLACKWOLFGOAT, will release the fittingly titled Drone Maintenance full-length late next month via volume powerhouse, Small Stone Recordings.
BLACKWOLFGOAT is the solo vessel of guitarist Darryl Shepard (Black Pyramid, The Scimitar, Hackman, Milligram, Roadsaw). Shepard’s previous two outings, 2010’s Dragonwizardsleeve and 2011’s Dronolith, established BLACKWOLFGOAT’s modus operandi of looped guitar movements, building and layering upon each other to create compositions of dense distortion and delicate lines, as well as purely ambient pieces. Engineering and mixing duties were handled by Glenn Smith (Tired Old Bones Ehnahre, Ichabod et al) at his Amps vs. Ohms studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
A quasi-concept album, the ten-track Drone Maintenance sends Shepard into the future as a drone repairman, fixing and servicing rogue drones. Musically, BLACKWOLFGOAT's palette has been expanded to include acoustic guitar and judiciously applied vocal parts, but the main focus remains the electric guitar itself -- without any other instrumentation or ulterior motives, and frequently captured live in one take with minimal overdubs of carefully considered embellishments added to the base layer. Inspired by early-‘70s fusion, Krautrock, (Randy Holden's Population II) and suffocating doom, each song could serve as a soundtrack for an as-yet-unrealized film, yet they stand on their own and transduce their own moods. Drone Maintenance urges listeners to leave all preconceptions of traditional music at the door and take an audio journey to places both bathed in sunlight and cloaked in darkness. Additionally, Drone Maintenance boasts another otherworldly creation from renowned artist Alexander von Wieding (Karma To Burn, Monster Magnet, Trouble, etc.),
Drone Maintenance Track Listing:

The last Savatage record to feature Stevens, The Wake Of Magellan is a monumental concept album and considered by many to be the band's best work of the post-1993 Savatage saga. Narrated by Stevens' prodigious voice and framed by deeply emotional and highly expressional compositions, the album can easily be described as a true rock opera.
Live At Wacken (Official Bootleg) Track Listing:
1. The Ocean/Welcome
2. Turns To Me
3. Morning Sun
4. Complaint In The System (Veronica Guerin)
5. The Wake Of Magellan
6. Anymore

Live At Wacken (Official Bootleg) follows CIRCLE II CIRCLE's epic Seasons Will Fall full-length released in early 2013. Blending Stevens' history and unique "Savatage style" with the fresh sounds he's meticulously developed with CIIC, Seasons Will Fall's fusion of metal and hard rock, powered by his passionate melodic rock vocals continues to reap the love and adoration of fans and critics globally. Colossal Pop crowned Stevens, "one of the best vocalists in the rock world," while Hardrock Haven noted, "This is a must-have album your music collection, especially if you are a CIRCLE II CIRCLE or Savatage fan or checking out the progressive metal scene for the first time." The Age Of Metal agreed: "CIRCLE II CIRCLE have indeed exceeded their potential, and challenged their capabilities to the most on this record. A great hard rock album full of heavy riffs, high note vocals, and a pure rocking attitude all around it."
